Information for New Woodlands Trailmen and Parents

Sign in / Sign out

It is imperative that all Woodland Trailmen are signed in at the beginning of the meeting and signed out at the end of the meeting. Please write legibly and fill out the first and last name of both your Trailman and yourself.

Parents of Fox Patrol Trailmen

If you have a boy in the Fox patrol (Kindergarten & 1st grade) then it is required that you either be in the same area of the patrol or in an area adjacent to where the patrol is meeting.

Uniforms

The required uniform for the Woodlands is the same for the whole troop. Uniform shirt, pants, and belt from the Trail Life USA store (https://traillifeusa.configio.com/). The Class B t-shirt should be worn underneath the Class A shirt. The Class B shirt is determined by the troop and is not mandatory but is encouraged for uniformity. If an official troop Class B shirt is not owned then a t-shirt of the same color should be worn that has no inappropriate or unapproved text/images. Socks should be dark in color. Footwear should be closed toe and acceptable for hiking/camping. There is no official Trail Life uniform hat or troop hat at this time. Trail Life sells matching hats but they are optional.

Season Start & End

The Woodlands meet for 3 quarters of the year. We typically start around when public school starts (CMS) and try to finish when they do.

Handbooks

Woodland’s trail handbooks are encouraged but not required for the 2017-2018 season. When we start the 2018-2019 season around August 2018 then the handbooks will be required.

Missed Meetings

If your Trailmen misses a meeting, the primary responsibility for finding out about makeup work falls upon the parent/guardian. The Woodlands leaders will try to recognize these Trailmen and their missed opportunities but we cannot guarantee that we will catch everyone.  Once makeup work is given then the parent/guardian will be responsible for making sure the work is done and the necessary materials are turned in to the appropriate leader.

Camping

Most of the Woodlands camping trips are family camping. The leadership attempts to locate local campsites (within 2 hours drive time) that have standard amenities such as flush toilets, showers, nearby drinking water, and nearby parking.

What Equipment Should I Buy?

I am working on a list of basic equipment. Check back periodically.

Trailmen Accounts

A Trailman account is a holding space for monies that belong to individual Trailmen. It is not a true “account” but rather an entry in a spreadsheet that tells the Treasurer how much money out of the main account belongs to that Trailman. In the past, the Trailman could use this money for many things but now due to IRS restrictions, this money has a more limited functionality. The primary function of this money is to pay for dues and camping trips. Items that can be kept such as uniforms, equipment, etc. are no longer allowed for purchase using the Trailmen accounts.
